Economic Development BRE Business Spotlight

The BRE (Business Retention Expansion) program in Balch Springs is coordinated and implemented thru the Economic Development Department. The Balch Springs Economic Development Department has made great strides on growing and expanding the BRE program. For the past three fiscal years, the Economic Development Corporations have contracted with the Balch Springs Chamber of Commerce to facilitate the program. 

The BRE Team recently visited the following companies; Sleepers to Sneakers Daycare, JM&R Body Works and Ferguson Waterworks.

Sleepers to Sneakers: On February 15th the BRE Team visited Sleepers to Sneakers Daycare located at 11707 Seagoville Road. The Team met with business owners Paula and David Fontenot. The 10,000 square foot building sits on 5 acres and the business employs 17 employees. The Sleepers to Sneakers Daycare opened its doors in 1983 and was purchased by the current owners in 2011. JM&R Body Works:  The BRE Team visited owner John Chisolm and Manager John Keith with JM& R Body Works which is located at 1700 S. Peachtree Road on March 13th. The 32,000 square foot building sits on a little over 11 acres. JM&R specializes in repairing Class A trucks such as mechanical, frame, fiberglass and major body repairs. The company opened its doors in Balch Springs in September 2015 and employs 12 highly skilled workers.  For more information regarding JM&R Body Works please visit their website at

Ferguson Waterworks: On May 4th the BRE Team visited Darren Ponewash the Branch Manager of Fegusson Waterworks which is located at 2110 S. Peachtree Road. Fergusion Waterworks specializes in distributing water, sanitary sewer and storm water parts, plumbing supplies, kitchen & bath fixtures and heating and cooling equipment. The company’s headquarters is located in Euless, TX and employs 14 employees at the Balch Springs location. For more information regarding Ferguson Waterworks please visit their website at

The BRE Team’s objective is to visit with 12 businesses a year.  Over the past three years the BRE Team has met with the following businesses: Balch Springs Middle School, Baseball Nation, Best Promotions, Buddy Furnace, Concord Commercial, Dallas County Veterinary Hospital, Davita Dialysis, Don’s Auto Care, Gamez Pallet, GDL Masonry, Home Depot, I-20 Beverage, Kroger, Space Maker Designs, Martin Marietta (TXI), Mesquite ISD, O’Reilly Auto Parts, Premier Soccer, Progressive Auto Care, Texas Best Smokehouse, and Walmart.
